Front doors: the face of your home

Your front door is the first thing guests touch and the last thing they remember. A weathered, sun-beaten door drags down the whole entry — but most doors do not need replacing. I strip, sand, stain, and seal front doors back to a rich, like-new finish, or give them a bold new painted color that makes the whole house pop. Either way, the door gets the same flawless attention as my cabinet work.

My wood finishing process

  1. Assessment. I look at the wood’s condition, the existing finish, and the sun and weather exposure to choose the right approach.
  2. Stripping and sanding. Failed finish and gray, weathered wood come off — down to sound wood that will take stain evenly.
  3. Repair. Damaged areas are repaired so the finished surface is sound, not just pretty.
  4. Stain and finish. Premium stains and sealers, applied for even color and lasting protection against sun and moisture.
  5. Detail work. Edges, joints, and hardware areas get the same care as the broad surfaces — because that is what people see up close.
